Back in February, I met up with Erin and Ben for a Maternity Photoshoot at Hylands Park Chelmsford— and while there were no blossoms just yet, the park still gave us the most peaceful, natural setting.

The dried grasses and the twisted branches of the wisteria walk added texture and calm — the kind of backdrop that doesn’t need colour to feel beautiful. Just open space, soft light, and a chance to slow down before their world changes in the best way.

Why Hylands Park is one of my favourite spots for maternity photos

Even in winter, Hylands Estate has a quiet charm that makes it perfect for maternity sessions. You don’t need blooms or perfect weather — just space to connect, a good coat if it’s chilly, and a little trust in the process.

We wandered through the formal gardens, found a few quiet spots for sitting, and just let the session unfold naturally. No pressure, no stiff posing. Just real moments — the kind that remind you what this season is all about.

What I loved most about this shoot was how easy it felt. Erin and Ben were so connected — chatting, laughing, taking it all in — and it was a joy to capture their story.

Erin’s mum joined us for a few photos too, which made the whole session even more meaningful. There’s something really special about capturing the bond between generations — especially during pregnancy.

And of course, Lexi the dog came along too! She was the perfect addition, keeping things light and fun (and stealing a few cuddles along the way). If you’ve got a dog who’s part of the family, they’re always welcome at my shoots.

My approach to maternity photography — relaxed, real, and connection-led

If you’re new to this whole photography thing, please know — you don’t need to be a “picture person” to have beautiful photos. You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to feel completely comfortable in front of the camera.

That’s my job — to help you feel at ease, guide you gently, and create space for connection. Most of the time, people forget I’m even taking photos.

Whether you’re expecting your first or your third, these are moments worth holding on to — and I promise to make it feel calm, simple, and you.
